Miss Africa 2018 : winners wig catches fire during Pageant

Miss Congo, Dorcas Kasinde emerged the winner of the 2018 edition of the Miss Africa beauty pageant but not without a mild drama.

Kasinde, who emerged the winner in Calabar, Cross River state, ahead of the first runner-up, Nigeria’s Chimamaka Goodness Nnaemeka and Zambia’s Gladys Kayumba, who emerged as the second runner-up, was crowned as the new Queen on Thursday night, December 27, 2018  by the 2017 winner, Gaseangwe Balopi from Botswana.

But as the 24-year-old Congolese Queen hugged her predecessor while celebrating her victory, her wig caught fire.

This happened after the stage fireworks were set off on the stage.

The incident caused panic on stage as the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, and ex-Miss Africa, Balopi frantically tried to put out the fire.

The Congolese beauty queen won $35,000 and a sports utility vehicle as her winning prize.

The Nigerian representative earned $10,000 while Zambia’s Kayumba will be given $5,000 for her effort.

Speaking shortly after emerging as the Queen, Kasinde said, “I am so glad to have you all and I am so happy. I want to thank you all for coming out tonight to vote for me, even on social media. I love you so much. I am good, although my hair was broken but it’s okay, thank you.”
